Health Ministry: Nine new Covid-19 clusters, four from workplaces


PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has identified nine new Covid-19 clusters in the country, of which four are workplace outbreaks.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of active clusters in the country is now 344.

The Jalan Puncak Borneo cluster in Sarawak has 61 confirmed cases so far.

“The cluster is linked to trainees of a training centre in Jalan Puncak Borneo, Kuching.

“A targeted screening exercise was conducted on 111 individuals from April 11.

“As of April 13, there are 61 confirmed cases,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

Besides the four workplace clusters, there were also three new community outbreaks.

One of them is the Kampung Gayang cluster, which is linked to a social event held on March 28 at a village in Tuaran, Sabah.

“The index case in this cluster tested positive on April 6 after developing symptoms.

“A total of 548 individuals had to be screened and as of April 13, there are 23 confirmed cases under the cluster,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

An outbreak at a detention centre at Jalan Salleh in Muar, Johor was also uncovered, where 23 detainees tested positive.

A religious event at Jalan Bukit Belida in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, also has 15 confirmed cases so far.

On existing clusters, the Persiaran Cybersouth cluster had the biggest increase with 137 new cases.

Linked to a construction site in Sepang, Selangor, the cluster now has 524 confirmed cases since it was uncovered on March 19.
